itlogs.food is a hackathon project. The app is not in any app store. It runs in Developer Mode on its developer's own glasses and phone, so its only user today is its developer. This page says what it handles, and would apply to anyone else who runs it.
What it handles
- Camera frames from the glasses, only between Start and Stop, which you tap.
- What you say, as text recognized on the glasses. If the glasses are not recognizing speech, audio from the phone's microphone goes to the server, which sends it to Muse Voice Transcribe.
- Food names and grams, and the nutrients worked out from them.
Why
To log the food you weigh. Nothing else. It does not identify people, show ads or sell data.
Where it goes
- From the phone to a server you run on your own network.
- From the server to the model provider you configured, to read the frame and understand the sentence: the Meta Model API, on model ids that do not train on the content, or Baseten.
- The name read off a packaged food's wrapper goes to the Meta Model API's web search, to find its printed nutrition facts.
- If a PostHog token is configured: food names, grams, diagnostic lines and errors go to PostHog. Never frames or audio.
- To Apple Health, only when you confirm the meal. The app reads back only the energy it wrote.
What is kept
- The video stream is not written to disk, except when the server is started specifically to film what the glasses saw.
- The server records only when started with a record folder, which the project's
make run-livedoes. It then keeps the frames that were read and the events of the session in that local folder on the server's machine, never in the public repository. Diagnostic lines from the phone go to a local log file. - The public repository holds food names, grams, confidence and timing from a few real sessions, with no speech. Its only photo from a run is the frame on the home page, of the developer's own scale, chosen by hand.
Deleting it
Deleting a recording's folder deletes that recording. Meals in Apple Health are deleted in the Health app. To ask for anything to be deleted, or to ask about this page, write to the author at the address on the commits in the source repository.
